It depends entirely on the carving, which is why this is a craft rather than a product. The material is the same gunite as the shell, shot over a shaped steel frame and then hand-carved and coloured while it is workable. Done carelessly it looks like grey concrete lumps. Done properly it reads as rock, and it is far lighter on the structure than real boulders of the same size.

Often, yes, but it is a different job from building one alongside a new shell. It depends on what the feature would tie into, whether the existing structure and deck can carry it, and how a rig and hose reach the area. Worth having someone look at the specific pool rather than answering from a photo.

Artificial rock and boulder work, waterfalls, grottos, rock slides, raised spillways and other water features. They are shot and carved on site, on the same trip as the shell where the schedule allows.

It adds real material and real labour. A feature is solid formed and carved concrete rather than a thin shell, so it can add a meaningful amount of gunite on top of the pool itself, and the carving is hand work. That is why two pools with the same footprint can be very different jobs.
